Move In You Own Way

Move In Your Own Way is an inclusive creative dance project working with neurodivergent and vulnerable children aged 7 to 11 in primary schools across under resourced communities. Through weekly sessions led by specialist dance artists, the project creates flexible and supportive spaces where young people can explore movement in their own way, build confidence and express themselves creatively. final report
The project takes a child centred approach, adapting sessions around the individual needs of each young person rather than expecting them to fit within a traditional dance environment. This includes supporting children experiencing emotional dysregulation and using movement as a tool for creativity, connection and regulation. final report
Alongside its work with young people, Move In Your Own Way draws on specialist experience in inclusive dance practice and SEMH training, helping artists understand behaviour, emotional regulation and how to create environments where children feel safe and supported to participate. The project also creates opportunities for emerging dance professionals to develop their own inclusive practice through mentoring.
Across one academic year, the project delivered 141 hours of activity, reached more than 70 children, worked alongside 11 school staff and engaged 3 emerging professionals as mentees.
Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
